## Are CertainTeed Landmark shingles architectural shingles?

**Yes, CertainTeed’s Landmark shingles are architectural (also called dimensional) shingles. **They are made by laminating two pieces of the shingle firmly together in a tough asphaltic cement** **on a fiberglass mat.

The shingles also have ceramic-coated mineral granules tightly embedded in water-resistant asphalt. This multi-layer design gives Landmark shingles dimension and natural shadow lines, which means they won’t lay flat like 3-tab shingles. 

They have a wide array of color options, with some even providing a look similar to natural cedar shakes. While looks are important, the multiple layers also make Landmark architectural shingles a durable asphalt roofing material.

On top of algae resistance, CertainTeed’s Landmark architectural shingles also offer: 

- 21 color options (availability varies by location)
- Tear resistance

- Class A Fire-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)
- Class F Wind-Resistance (110 mph)

Landmark PRO architectural shingles have the following performance features:

- 22 Max Def color options (availability varies by location)
- Tear resistance
- Class 3 Impact-Resistance Rating

Landmark ClimateFlex shingles come with Landmark’s standard algae resistance, but also have:

- Class 4 Impact-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)

Like all the others, Landmark ClimateFlex architectural shingles are backed by CertainTeed’s lifetime-limited transferable warranty. On top of this, they also come with:

- 25-year StreakFighter® warranty
- 15-year 110 mph wind-resistance warranty (upgradable to 130 mph)

Landmark ClimateFlex architectural shingles offer the same perks as Landmark and Landmark PRO at a more expensive price point. However, the Class 4 Impact Rating is a huge benefit that no other Landmark shingle line offers.

### 4. Landmark Solaris

[**CertainTeed's Landmark Solaris architectural shingles**](https://www.certainteed.com/products/residential-roofing-products/landmark-solaris)** are designed with a reflective layer and Solaris Cool Roof Technology to reduce solar heat absorption.** The advanced design focuses on energy efficiency, which can lower your energy bills.

Landmark Solaris also complies with the 2016 California Title 24 Part 6 Cool Roof Requirements if local codes specify energy efficiency. They are also rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), which can qualify for tax credits with LEED, NAHB, and other green programs.

Landmark Solaris shingles are a great option in areas with a lot of sunshine and specific energy code requirements. However, they pretty much offer everything you’d expect from a Landmark shingle just with added energy efficiency.

### 5. Landmark TL

[**CertainTeed's Landmark TL architectural shingles**](https://www.certainteed.com/products/residential-roofing-products/landmark-tl)** have the same multi-layer design as Landmark and Landmark PRO.** However, their three laminated layers (instead of two) make them thicker to match a cedar shake roof's look closer.

The third layer makes Landmark TL shingles incredibly durable, but CertainTeed doesn’t specify Impact Rating. They also have a high-contrast color palette and natural shadow lines to create enhanced visual dimension. 

With that in mind, Landmark TL architectural shingles offer:

- Tear resistance
- Class A Fire-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)
- Class F Wind-Resistance (110 mph)

Like every other Landmark shingle, they come with CertainTeed’s lifetime-limited transferable warranty. And like Landmark PRO warranties, they offer:

- 30-year StreakFighter® warranty
- 10-year SureStart™ protection (covers 100% replacement and labor costs due to manufacturing defects)
- 15-year 110 mph wind-resistance warranty (upgradable to 130 mph)

Landmark TL architectural shingles provide the closest look to a shake roof out of all the Landmark options. Unless you specifically want this, I would consider other options for more proven performance perks.
