Are you considering DaVinci synthetic shingles, but worried about the price tag? Do you need to know the benefits to determine if a DaVinci synthetic shingle roof is worth it?
Synthetic shingles are newer to the industry, and DaVinci Roofscapes is one of the top manufacturers. But while they're newer, DaVinci synthetic shingles are a great roofing material.
And as they become more and more popular, homeowner interest is at an all time. However, a DaVinci synthetic shingle roof won’t be the best fit for everyone.
Well, the only way to determine if it's worth it for you, is to know what it offers.
For over 35 years, Bill Ragan Roofing has helped homeowners find the right roofing material for their roof replacement. That's why I want to give you an unbiased look at DaVinci synthetic shingles to help you figure out if they're worth the investment.
In this article, I'll answer:
DaVinci synthetic shingles (also called composite) are a rubber/plastic like shingle that are designed to look like natural slate tiles and cedar shakes. Unlike other synthetic shingles, they aren't made of recycled materials.
Instead, they are made of an engineered polymer using virgin resin that's infused with fire retardant and UV and thermal stabilizers. They do this to ensure long-term viability of their product, but the shingles are still 100% recyclable.
After learning the basics of what DaVinci synthetic shingles are, you're ready to learn if they're worth it. The truth is, a DaVinci synthetic shingle roof is a great option.
However, you need to know what they offer to decide if it's the right type of roof for you.
Let's look at the following benefits of a DaVinci synthetic shingle roof:
DaVinci synthetic shingles are eco-friendly compared to other roofing materials because they are 100% recyclable. While this may not be important to you, the world is becoming more aware of our impact on the environment.
The roofing industry is simply responding by developing new roofing materials to become more environmentally conscious. They also have Cool Roof tiles that reflect sunlight, which means they also have options to increase your home's energy efficiency.
DaVinci synthetic shingles have very high curb appeal due to the natural cedar shake and slate tile look. DaVinci Roofscapes makes them look very close to the real thing by paying attention to the fine details.
DaVinci slate synthetic shingles are modeled directly from real slate tiles and add a hand-crafted touch with chisel marks to make them look authentic. DaVinci cedar shake synthetic shingles have real grain patterns and deep grooves to create a shingle that looks just like real wood or cedar shakes.
Designing them this way ensures you won’t be able to tell the difference between the synthetic shingles and the roofing material it mimics.
While DaVinci synthetic shingles go through wear and tear like every roof, they won’t show it the way natural materials do. Natural cedar shakes show signs of wear and tear by color fading, rotting, cracking, and curling as they age.
Natural slate tiles are fragile and become brittle and lighter from constant UV exposure as they age. You don't have to worry about all this with a DaVinci synthetic shingles as much as you do with the natural materials.
Their color may fade a bit, but you won't have to worry about cracks, rotting, or broken tiles.
A natural slate roof is so heavy that your house has to be built or retro-framed to handle the weight. This significantly increases the cost of one of the most expensive roofs on the market.
DaVinci synthetic shingles are lightweight, so you don’t have to worry about the problems that come with a heavy slate roof. There's no fear of your walls falling in and your roof caving in on you if the weight becomes too much.
This still gives you the natural slate look you want with the added benefit of saving time and money.
DaVinci synthetic shingles have a Class 4 impact rating, which is the highest rating a roofing material can have. This impact rating means they have been tested to withstand hail up to 2” in diameter without sustaining damage.
So, the class 4 impact-resistance makes DaVinci synthetic shingles incredibly durable when it comes to storm damage. They also have a certified 110-mph wind rating and has passed tests for Miami-Dade County, Texas Department of Insurance, and High Velocity Hurricane Zones.
The durability of DaVinci synthetic shingles to withstand storm damage is one thing, but it also means they have a great lifespan. As long as it's installed correctly, a DaVinci synthetic shingle roof should last around 40-50 years.
Combined with their storm damage resistance, it’s one of the longest-lasting roofing materials on the market. However, a synthetic shingle will only reach its full potential if you hire a great roofer and invest in quality.
In my opinion, getting a new DaVinci synthetic shingle roof is well worth the money. The curb appeal, durability, lifespan, and everything make it worth the investment.
Plus, you also don’t have to worry about the downsides that come with natural cedar shakes or slate tiles. However, I don’t recommend a DaVinci roof if you’re looking for affordability.
A DaVinci synthetic shingle roof cost around $15.00 to $20.00 per square foot, which makes it about three times more expensive than architectural asphalt shingles (most common roof). This puts it out of the price range for most homeowners, but that's really the only downside to a DaVinci synthetic shingles.
At this point, you know the benefits of a DaVinci synthetic shingle roof to determine if it's right for you. And as I said, I think it's well worth the investment.
However, it's important to consider your budget, which put it's out of reach for many homeowners. So, if you're looking for affordability, a DaVinci synthetic shingle roof is probably not the best choice.
