Do you need a new asphalt roof? Are you considering CertainTeed’s industry-leading Landmark architectural shingles?

In my opinion, you won’t find a better architectural shingle line than Landmark. However, CertainTeed offers multiple options to fit any homeowner's needs.

It’s easy to go through CertainTeed’s website and comb through all the information to learn more about them. But this is time-consuming and frustrating, especially when it comes to finding things that matter to you.

So, let’s make it simple.

For over 30 years, Bill Ragan Roofing has taken pride in helping homeowners navigate the complexities of the roofing industry. Because of this, I’ll break down CertainTeed’s Landmark architectural shingle options.

Below, you’ll find all the information about each Landmark shingle, including what makes them stand out, their performance perks, and the warranties CertainTeed offers. Keep in mind that each shingle's availability varies by location.

1. Landmark

CertainTeed’s Landmark® shingle is their standard architectural shingle with a multi-layered design on a tough fiberglass base and protective outer layer. They also come with CertainTeed’s StreakFighter® algae resistance against black streaks caused by algae growth.

On top of algae resistance, CertainTeed’s Landmark asphalt shingles also offer:

  • 21 color options (availability varies by location)
  • Class 3 Impact-Resistance Rating
  • Tear resistance
  • Class A Fire-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)
  • Class F Wind-Resistance (110 mph)

Landmark shingles come with CertainTeed's lifetime-limited warranty, but they also come with specific warranties to back up the performance features.

These warranties include:

  • 10-year SureStart™ warranty (covers 100% replacement and labor costs due to manufacturing defects)
  • 25-year StreakFighter® warranty against streaking and discoloration caused by airborne algae
  • 15-year, 110 mph wind-resistance warranty (upgradable to 130 mph)

CertainTeed’s Landmark asphalt shingle line is a high-quality and reliable choice for residential roof replacements. However, their affordability is a big reason Landmark shingles are incredibly popular.

2. Landmark PRO

CertainTeed's Landmark PRO architectural shingles offer the same quality and reliability as the basic Landmark line. Like Landmark, they have a multi-layer design on a fiberglass base and a protective outer layer with StreakFighter® algae resistance.

However, Landmark PRO architectural shingles are slightly heavier, which gives them a little more durability. Other than that, the only other difference is that they come in Maximum Definition colors.

Landmark PRO shingles have the following performance features:

  • 22 Max Def color options (availability varies by location)
  • Tear resistance
  • Class 3 Impact-Resistance Rating
  • Class A Fire-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)
  • Class F Wind-Resistance (110 mph)

Like most CertainTeed shingles, Landmark PRO shingles include CertainTeed’s lifetime-limited transferable warranty. Other warranties that these CertainTeed shingles offer are:

  • 10-year SureStart™ protection (covers 100% replacement and labor costs due to manufacturing defects)
  • 30-year StreakFighter® warranty
  • 15-year 110 mph wind-resistance warranty (upgradable to 130 mph)

While more expensive, Landmark PRO architectural asphalt shingles offer the same peace of mind as Landmark shingles. However, they are still affordable and increase your home’s aesthetics while offering a little more durability.

3. Landmark ClimateFlex

CertainTeed's Landmark ClimateFlex architectural shingles are polymer-modified Landmark shingles specifically made for storm damage durability. The rubber-like qualities of this shingle’s asphalt formula provide enhanced hail resistance, cold-weather flexibility, and granule adhesion.

Because of this, ClimateFlex is the Impact-Resistant line of Landmark architectural shingles. So, they are the perfect choice for areas hit by frequent hail storms.

Landmark ClimateFlex shingles come with Landmark’s standard algae resistance, but also have:

  • 6 color options (availability varies by location)
  • Tear resistance
  • Class 4 Impact-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)
  • Class A Fire-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)
  • Class F Wind-Resistance (110 mph)

Like all the others, Landmark ClimateFlex shingles are backed by CertainTeed’s lifetime-limited transferable warranty. On top of this, they also come with:

  • 10-year SureStart™ protection (covers 100% replacement and labor costs due to manufacturing defects)
  • 25-year StreakFighter® warranty
  • 15-year 110 mph wind-resistance warranty (upgradable to 130 mph)

Landmark ClimateFlex architectural shingles pretty much offer the same perks as Landmark and Landmark PRO at a steeper price. However, the Class 4 Impact Rating is a huge benefit that no other Landmark shingles can match.

4. Landmark Solaris

CertainTeed's Landmark Solaris architectural shingles are designed with a Solaris Cool Roof Technology reflective layer to reduce heat absorption from the sun. They are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) and comply with the 2016 California Title 24 Part 6 Cool Roof Requirements.

This advanced design focuses on energy efficiency, which can lower your energy bills and keep your home more comfortable throughout the year. They may also qualify for tax credits in LEED, NAHB, and other green programs.

Energy efficiency is by far their main selling point. However, they also offer the other basic Landmark features, such as:

  • 12 color options (availability varies by location)
  • Algae resistance
  • Tear resistance
  • Class 3 Impact-Resistance Rating
  • Class A Fire-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)
  • Class F Wind-Resistance (110 mph)

Like the others, Landmark Solaris architectural shingles come with CertainTeed’s lifetime-limited transferable warranty. And just like standard Landmark shingles, they come with:

  • 10-year SureStart™ protection (covers 100% replacement and labor costs due to manufacturing defects)
  • 25-year StreakFighter® warranty
  • 15-year 110 mph wind-resistance warranty (upgradable to 130 mph)

These shingles offer everything you’d expect from a Landmark shingle but with added energy efficiency. This makes it a great option in areas with a lot of sunshine and specific energy code requirements.

5. Landmark TL

CertainTeed's Landmark TL architectural shingles have the same multi-layer design as Landmark and Landmark PRO. However, they are constructed with three laminated layers (instead of two), making them thicker to truly match a cedar shake look.

They also have a high-contrast color palette and natural shadow lines to create enhanced visual dimension. Even with the third layer making them more durable than standard Landmark shingles, they don’t have the Class 3 Impact Rating like Landmark PRO.

With that in mind, Landmark TL architectural shingles have the following performance features:

  • 4 color options (availability varies by location)
  • Tear resistance
  • Class A Fire-Resistance Rating (highest rating available)
  • Class F Wind-Resistance (110 mph)

Like every other Landmark shingle, they come with CertainTeed’s lifetime-limited transferable warranty. And like Landmark PRO warranties, they offer:

  • 30-year StreakFighter® warranty
  • 10-year SureStart™ protection (covers 100% replacement and labor costs due to manufacturing defects)
  • 15-year 110 mph wind-resistance warranty (upgradable to 130 mph)

Just know that this Landmark shingle isn't available in many areas. So, unless you specifically want this, I would consider other options for more performance perks.

Are CertainTeed Landmark architectural shingles right for you?

After reading this article, you know the 5 types of CertainTeed architectural shingles for you to choose from. If you’re like most homeowners, you’ll probably go with the standard Landmark or Landmark PRO.

However, the other three shingles are great options for homeowners looking for something more specific. With that in mind, I always recommend talking to your roofing contractor before making a final decision.

And before reaching out to a roofer, it’s also important to determine if architectural shingles are even the right type of shingle for you. That’s why I wrote another article comparing the three types of asphalt shingles to ensure you pick the right one.

Check out The 3 Types of Asphalt Shingles to learn the lifespan, warranties, and cost, plus the pros and cons of each type of asphalt shingle.
